Volunteer Application!!!
Camp
Sunshine,
a summer recreational program for children and young
adults with disabilities, operates for 9
or 10 weeks each summer
(Mon. – Fri., 9:00 A.M.-3:30 P.M.) beginning
the end of
June and running
through the end of August. Volunteers
may start any day during
the summer and volunteer for as many days as they
choose. New
Volunteers should attend our
Annual Volunteer Open House
scheduled this year for Saturday, June 21st, 2008, 1:00 pm at the
Camp.
Camp Sunshine is unique
among its peers because of its corps of
volunteers who provide one-to-one care to its
campers. Each volunteer has
the opportunity to assist one camper in
various camp activities throughout
the day. The main responsibilities of
each volunteer counselor include:
· Assisting
the camper in the areas of arts & crafts, games, swimming, etc.
· Making
sure that your camper is participating to his/her fullest in
camp projects.
· Being
a buddy to your camper, encouraging your camper to try new things,
& celebrating their successes.
· Ensuring
that your camper is never left unattended during the Camp day.
Camp Sunshine
also offers you the opportunity to see the world
through the eyes of our campers. We
schedule day trips to many different
and fun places, have weekly
barbecues, special theme days (e.g. a Talent
Show).
At
Camp Sunshine, you will bring joy, happiness, and a
sense of
accomplishment to the children and young
adults who attend our program,
and, in doing so, you will
inspire those same
feelings in yourself. For over
48 years, volunteers have
come away
from our program feeling good about
the work
they’ve
done and knowing that they have made a difference in the
lives of others with their work.
New volunteers should plan to
arrive by 8:45 A.M. on their
first day. You can speak
to any one of the Sunshine Staff
members
who will gladly
give you an orientation to the program. You can

and
bring it with you on your first
day. Be

activities
will be taking
place on your first day.
