Camp Sunshine & Camp Snowflake, Inc. runs year-round recreational programs
for children and young adults with multiple disabilities.
Camp Sunshine,
founded in 1960, is a summer recreational program for children and
young adults with multiple disabilities. The Camp is open each
summer for 9
weeks (Mon. – Fri., 9:00 A.M.-3:30 P.M.) beginning the last Monday in June and
running through the fourth Friday in August. Camp
Sunshine is unique among its peers because of its corps of volunteers who
provide one-on-one care to its campers. Each volunteer has the
opportunity to assist one camper in various camp activities throughout the
day.
Camp Snowflakewas
opened in 1970 to provide a needed social outlet for many of the
campers who attend Camp Sunshine in the summer. It strives to maintain
the friendships forged during the summers through the sometimes long and
difficult academic year. Camp Snowflake has expanded its services over
the years to campers not also attending the Sunshine program and has added
many exciting activities to its calendar each year. Snowflake meets once
per week, on Saturday afternoons from 1:00 P.M. to 4:00
P.M. This year, Camp Snowflake will open on September 15, 2007,
and run until June 7, 2008, except for holidays. Activities
include arts & crafts activities, adapted games, and monthly field trips
to places such as the Bronx Zoo and Liberty Science Center. Camp
Snowflake also provides one-to-one care for its campers with its corps of
dedicated volunteers.
Camp Sunshine & Camp
Snowflake is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization committed to providing
Northern New Jersey's most engaging, most diverse programs available to
children and young adults with multiple disabilities.
