Download a Camp Snowflake '08-'09
Volunteer Application!!!
Camp Snowflake
is a similar program to our summer camp, with
its
reliance on one-to-one attention and its adapted activities.
"Snowflake" meets once per week, on Saturday afternoons from
1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M., from September 13, 2008, through June 6,
2009, except for holidays. Volunteers should arrive by
12:45 P.M.
Camp Snowflake serves as a
recreational and social
meeting place
for our campers during the school year. Activities include arts &
crafts activities, adapted games, and monthly trips to places such
the
Bronx Zoo,
local bowling alleys,
movie theaters, Liberty Science
Center, Van Saun Zoological Park, and Minor
League Baseball
Games.
As a volunteer counselor, you will be a friend to one of our
campers for the afternoon, sharing their lives and letting them
share
yours. The biggest and best responsibility of our volunteer
counselors is the encouragement they can offer our campers and the
patience to listen to and understand their ideas. All
you need to be
an effective counselor is your enthusiasm to try
something new and
to meet new people who will bring as much joy to
your life as you
will to theirs.
New volunteers should plan to
arrive by 12:30 P.M. on their
first day.
You can speak to any one of the Snowflake Staff members
who will gladly
give you an orientation to the program. You can
download a
Volunteer Application and bring it with you
on your
first day.
Be sure to check the
News & Events
page to see what
the activities
will be for an upcoming Saturday.
Camp Snowflake
also frequently hosts groups of volunteers
from
local schools, churches, and other community service
organizations.
Please feel free to contact us to set up group
volunteering
sessions.
