Camp Sunshine,
a summer recreational program for multiply disabled children
and young
adults, will open for its 49th summer on Monday, June 23,
2008. Located
in
BergenCounty's
Saddle River County Park,
Wild Duck
Pond
Area,
the Camp
has thrived in this picturesque and
barrier-free
environment.
Campers
participate in daily Arts & Crafts and sports
activities, go
swimming
twice
during
each day
in our adapted, onsite heated swimmingpool, and
take
field
trips to
places such
as Six
Flags Great Adventure. While still maintaining its
rustic
charm, our newly-renovated,
state-of-the-art facility is fully equipped for
the needs of our campers,
with a playroom/video center, Windows computer
network,
and over 2000 sq. ft.
of air conditioned activity space. Our professional
staff and
volunteers ensure
that our campers get the fullest enjoyment from the
opportunities afforded at Camp
Sunshine.
Campers
are divided into
small groups of approximately 8 to 12 campers, with
the
groupings based
upon the
campers’ ages and abilities, ensuring that each
camper
can thrive among his or
her peers
throughout the summer. Each group
has a
Group Leader and an
Assistant
Group Leader supervising and assisting the
campers and
Volunteer
Camp Counselors, who work individually with our
Campers. Camp Sunshine
has been successful for over 48 years because of
its
continuous
supply of
dedicated volunteers from local schools, churches, and
community
organizations, who provide one-to-one care to
each
camper at
the
program.
Camp Sunshine opened in 1960
and is located at the Saddle
River County Park,
Wild Duck
Pond Area, at 1133 E. Ridgewood Ave., Ridgewood, NJ. For the
Summer of
2008, Camp Sunshine will open
on Monday, June 23rd, and run
until Friday, August 22nd. Camp Sunshine runs Monday through
